| World language courses provide students the opportunity to comprehend spoken language, express feelings, ideas and opinions orally and in writing, understand social patterns of interaction within a variety of cultures, make connections with other disciplines, and experience target language usage within and beyond the school setting. Language is practiced and assessed within three modes of communication: interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational. |

| Students who earn high school credit for middle school study are expected to take at least one additional year of the same language in high school or begin a two-year sequence (minimum) of a different language. |
